A2 in a nutshell
You can ride any motorcycle, as long as its original power output is no more than 95bhp. An A2 licence means this 95bhp motorcycle will need to be restricted down to half of its original power (47bhp).
The beauty of this is that it means you can buy a ‘bigger’ bike and ride it in a restricted format, then when you remove your restriction, you can keep the same bike but enjoy it with its intended power output.
Is 47bhp enough? Well it’s good for 100mph and it’ll see off a Golf GTI from the traffic lights.
Every A2 motorcycle you can buy new in the UK in 2019
The list below shows all the motorcycles you can buy new from UK dealers that are A2 compliant. Some of them will need restricting others are good to go straight out of the crate.
In order to take your A2 motorcycle licence you must ride a motorcycle with a minimum engine capacity of 395cc. Some of the bikes on this list are under 395cc. While fine to ride on an A2 licence, you won’t actually be able to take your test on them but you’ll most likely be using your motorcycle school’s bike to take your test on anyway.
