Getting your motorcycle on the dyno is a great experience.
If you just want to know what power and torque your bike’s making, you can just get a power check which will cost you around £30. The dyno operator will be able to comment on the bike’s fuelling and let you know whether or not it can be improved and whether or not the power can be increased and fuelling improved, to give the bike a better throttle response. Plus you’ll ride away with a cool print-out of your dynograph.
A power check is the first step to any dyno work. From here you can do all sorts of things to modify the bike’s fuelling, from fitting a power commander, to flashing the bike’s standard ECU with a map which will (or at least should) help improve your engine’s response and power output.
If you’ve fitted an aftermarket exhaust, an air filter or both, a power check is essential to ensure the engine’s not running too lean or too rich, which can sap power but also risk the engine’s internals.
A good dyno operator will be able to compare your bike’s power curve to identical bikes and even identical bikes running the same exhaust or other modifications to show you how healthy your set up is.
You don’t have to have a superbike to head to a dyno – a power check will benefit any bike, from Cruisers to Adventure bikes.
