Track Based Motorcycle Training

uk circuit based motorcycle training 1024x640 - Track Based Motorcycle Training

A circuit is a great place to improve your motorcycle skills. You don’t have to worry about oncoming cars, diesel spills, GATSOs, cyclists or the local wildlife (most of the time).

There are two main types of circuit-based motorbike training. You can take a course that uses the track to simulate an empty road, so you can concentrate on the riding technique. Usually, you and a group of other students work on a particular corner or technique, with the instructor standing on the inside of the corner. You’ll string these together and ride full laps towards the end of the course.

Or there are courses that are run more like a regular trackday. There will be other riders out on track but you (and usually another rider) will be paired with an instructor who will take you out on the circuit and work through various drills and techniques to improve your riding.

As you can see, some of the track-based schools have a focus on lapping faster, safer and smoother, while others are more focused on developing machine control, without worrying about lap times.

Whatever course you choose, the skills you develop will help your machine control and benefit you on the road as well as track.

If you’ve never been on a circuit before but you’d like to do a trackday, a circuit-based training course is a great stepping stone to going it alone.
