It’s one of those motorcycle bucket list experiences; riding a Harley on Route 66.
But it goes without saying, throughout the vast and varied landscape of America, there are so many great roads to ride, sights to see and towns to visit. It might only be ‘a few hundred years old’ but in some places it’s like a step back in time.
Unlike riding in Europe, you can’t really take your own bike (well, you could but it would require a huge amount of effort, paperwork and cost), so it’s better to just rent a bike from a USA-based motorbike rental company and get on and enjoy the ride.
There are lots of motorcycle rental companies out there, knowing what to look for is vital. If you’re stuck for extra gear or equipment, such as GPS, choosing a company with rentable extras will save you buying things you might not use again for a long time. Of course, these accessories will cost extra but not as much as forking out for a new Garmin when you don’t need to.
Just like with car hire firms, motorcycle rentals will come with their own insurance. This should be fully comp so always check the small print of the terms and conditions to make sure you’re fully covered.
